Allston is named after Washington Allston, an American poet and artist- a fitting name, considering the large population of artists currently concentrated in this area of Boston. This is not limited to writers and painters, but also includes musicians. Several musical venues in the area- including popular spots such as Paradise Rock Club, the Great Scott, and Wonderbar- provide a place for Allston residents to showcase their talents. Basement shows are also common, often displaying local artists’ work on the walls while residents host open mic poetry night or low key concerts. Aerosmith famously visited their old Allston apartment building in 2012 and put on a live show!
